Reports:
Copacabana Community Association (CCA) April Meeting 2/4/09
"The squeakiest wheel gets the most oil"
The statement made by the chair of CCA !
A truer statement has never been stated under the current circumstances.
Approximately 23 members were at the meeting + 5 new members from HLO.
3 agitators against holiday letting were present.
We joined the association because they are advertising the intention of forming a subcommittee to “step up our level of lobbying and agitation” against “ Short Term Lettings”. “ This committee was not formed at this meeting as they planned.
Chair discussed a group meeting with Mayor where among other issues Holiday Lettings were discussed.
Mayor stated 3 options.(in relation to Holiday Lettings)
1.Land & Environment action ( preferred by CCA)
2.Develop a code?
3.Develop regulation with need for a DA (chair stated that applicants would then need to run the gauntlet of communities, committees).
4.Option proposed by HLO (Self Regulation, 24/7 security company, code of conduct, dialogue with residents, positive solutions to address the challenges).
Under difficult circumstance with interference HLO attempted to put on the record the statistics in relation to holiday lettings and promote a positive constructive approach.
Final Outcome:- A request from the secretary for some written information on our ideas.
Discussion between a member of HLO and Secretary opened a line of communication.
We will now be putting our positive agenda to this very active committee and reporting on their response. This may take 3 months as they meet quarterly. Next meeting is 4/6/09.
